  • Attendance norms eased for sports quota students

Seeing a drop in students participating in state and national level sports competition, the Maharashtra state school education and sports department have decided to give subsidy in attendance of students participating at national and state level sports competitions. Students of grade 9 to 12 who are participating in national or state level sports competition can give their school exams even if they have 60 per cent school attendance or less than that now.

The state’s school education and sports department have issued a government resolution (GR) on Wednesday with a decision for all schools in the state to encourage students in sports activities by allowing them to prepare and appear for final school level examination with 60 per cent attendance instead of 75 per cent. And if the attendance is lower then 60 per cent, then the permission to appear for school level final exam can be given to students after the education officer permits.

The GR states that such facility of 60 per cent is made available for sports students playing at national level sports competition by Central Board Secondary Education. This facility will now be provided to those students who are participating in sports organised by central, state sports organisations and school games federation of India.

An official from the state school education and sports department said, “The state decided to make this provision for all schools in our state who will be participating in national as well as state sports competitions. If the attendance is below 60 per cent of sports students who are participating in sports then schools can allow these students to appear for school exams.”
